Walden
The quote “If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer” means that they live in such a way that is thought of to be unnormal by most people. I was on e watching this tv show where 2 of the people on the show lived in a tent in the middle of the woods. They were very odd people. My first reaction was why would anyone want to live thier life in a tent in the woods. I like going camping, but I would never survive living in a tent year around and not having an actual house. Their lifestyle was a very strange. The quote "I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live sturdily and Spartanlike..." show that he wants to live simply without materialistic items. I think that since you only have one life you should live it to the fullest and make the best of it.

Chapter 5
One quote the shows that Gatsby's dream is to be with Daisy is, "...his distraught eyes stared down at Daisy..." (86). Also at the end of the chapter, "His [Gatsby's] hand took hold of hers, as she said something low in his hear he turned toward her wish a rush of emotion"(96). I think that Daisy will just stay with Tom.
One quote the shows that Gatsby's wealth is, "He took out piles of shirts and began throwing them, one by one, before us, shirts of sheer linen and thick silk and fine flannel..."(92) Another quote that shows Gatsby's wealth is, "There was nothing to look at from under the tree except Gatsby's enormous house..."(88). This is important because Gatsby wants Daisy to think he is wealthy becuase Daisy married for money and he is in love with Daisy. He is trying to impress her.

The new American Dream
The trait of Gatsby that Nick describes as being “purely American” is his love for Daisy. He purposely bought a house in West Egg just so he could be closer to where Daisy lived. The American Dream started to take on a new meaning because of this. Gatsby used money to try to get closer to Daisy. “Then it had not been merely the stars to which he had aspired on that June night” (78). The new American Dream has to do with materialist possessions.

The Great Gatsby Chaper 3
The rumors that have been told about Gatsby are that he was a German spy. Another rumor was that he murdered someone. Fitzgerald reveals rumors rather than facts to make it more interesting and leave the readers wondering what actually happened. When Nick first meets Gatsby he is impressed with him.

The Great Gatsby
Nicks comment about Daisy and Toms suggests that they are very wealthy. Nick said that Daisy had a smirk on her face when she looked at him. I think Nicks opinion of them is that they are wealthy and arrogant. They believe that they are part of an exclusive society and that they are better an everyone else.
Nicks comment is similar to F. Scott Fitzgeralds comment because in both thier comments they are comparing the wealthy people to the poor people and that there is a clear difference between the way they act.

Fitzgerald's Depiction of the Time Period
I think that Fitzgerald's depiction of the time period is not really consistent. He goes back in forth talking about the wealth of some people and then the less fortunate people. On page 5 he says, "I lived at West Egg, the- well less fashionable of the two." Then he says, "Across the courtesy bay the while palaces of fashionable East Egg glittered along the water..." In one part of the state, there are fashionable, rich people and another part there are the people who aren't as fashionable and wealthy. This makes his depiction of the time period inconsistent.
The Great Gastby
Nick is telling the story in The Great Gastby because he is just relaying the information that happened previously. Also since he isn't involved in whats happening he's indifferent which makes him a good narrator. Nick is "confused and a little disgusted" and the end of chapter 1 because he's disgusted by Daisey and Toms behavior and how they are arrogant and that they aren't honest.

Imagination
Imagination is an important quality that everyone should have. Imagination allows people to think in different ways. It allows them to be creative in their own ways. It is important to use imagination when you're a little kid. Imagination helps kids with developement. This allows kids to question about the future and what they want to do when they grow up. Paul Harris, a development psychologist says, "The imagination is absolutely vital for contemplating reality, not just those things we take to be mere fantasy." Imagination is very important in everyone's life.
A connection that can be made to the flim, Big Fish, and imagination is that Ed Bloom uses his imagination when he's talking about the past and how he meets a witch who tells him that he is going to die. Ed also makes up stories using his imagination. He feels as though his imagination allows him to be special in his own way. Will and Ed Blooms lives would be different without imagination though. Ed would probably be depressed because his life is not what he wants it to be. Will might understand who his real father is instead of imagining things about him.
